“Living Construction Site” was all about free play, creating with your hands, and discovering what happens when you’re given the freedom to come up with something on your own. Not only children, but adults as well became absorbed in building, experimenting, adjusting, and starting over.
Precisely because everyone made something different, something collective emerged. Individual ideas were connected, and structures began to build upon one another.
Zeugstraat got a new look, with construction workers in overalls, letters on the windows, and details that piqued the curiosity of passersby.
That’s how “Levende Bouwplaats” began right on the street: as if a whole new world were suddenly under construction somewhere.
"The Living Construction Site" was a collaboration between STADSKANT and Techniek Werkplaats, Jong Belegen, Else Hofstede, Karien Hofhuis, Muziek Theater Goedwerk, creators, and volunteers, with support from the Goudse Schouwburg, Graaf Floris de V, Gouda Pot, Markus Stroopwafels, and Little Green Label.
For STADSKANT, that is precisely the value of these kinds of initiatives: not determining in advance what should be created, but creating the conditions in which people can create something new on their own and together. And sometimes it starts with a piece of cardboard and ends with a city.
"Levende Bouwplaats" took place at STADSKANT, located at Zeugstraat 36 in Gouda, and was part of the Festival De Verwondering.
