Gouda is world-famous—and far beyond—for its stroopwafels, candles, pottery, and stroopwafels. But first and foremost, it’s famous for Gouda cheese, the curdled milk that has even become a generic term. In recent years, the city has been attracting an increasing number of visitors, both from the Netherlands and abroad. The city government and local businesses are eager to offer visitors even more and encourage them to stay longer in the city. The historic city center, with its rich history and unique canal system, offers numerous opportunities to do just that.

Cheese Cruise (day trip)
Sail Cheese! ties in seamlessly with the Cheese Cruise, launched a few years ago, which is a day trip between the Landal De Reeuwijkse Plassen vacation park and Gouda. The Cheese Cruise offers participants a varied boat trip from the rural Reeuwijkse Plassen area to downtown Gouda via the centuries-old waterway through the Breevaart, the two-way lock at the Reeuwijksche Verlaat, the Karnemelksloot, and the Fluwelensingel. From the dock on Korte Vest, participants can walk in just a few minutes to the famous cheese market on Marktplein or visit Cheese Experience, the interactive mecca of Gouda cheese.
