Gouda Comes Together During Loneliness Awareness Week
From September 24 through September 30, Gouda will be celebrating the Week Against Loneliness. Various free activities for people of all ages will be organized throughout the city. Through these activities, organizations in Gouda aim to invite residents to meet one another, get involved, and make new connections.
Loneliness is very common. Nearly half of Gouda’s residents feel lonely at times. This can be temporary, but it can also last for a longer period. That is precisely why it’s important for residents to know where they can meet others and what activities are available in their neighborhood. With the Week Against Loneliness, we want to encourage social interaction and connection. Because connecting with others can help. Doing something together, having a chat, or joining an activity can be a first step. In Gouda, there are places and activities throughout the year where you can meet others.
From shared meals to creative activities
During Loneliness Awareness Week, there’s something to do every day in Gouda. The program is diverse: from shared meals and exercise to creative activities and other opportunities to get together. The activities cater to a range of ages and interests.
Even after the Week Against Loneliness
, the focus on loneliness doesn’t end this week. In Gouda, there are places throughout the year where residents can meet others and participate in activities. The free magazine *Voor Elkaar* in Gouda helps residents with this. The magazine features stories, tips, and information about activities and meeting places in Gouda. The magazine can be viewed online and is available at various locations throughout the city, such as community centers, the library, and neighborhood centers.
The complete program, including activities, locations, and the magazine, can be found on this page.
Action Plan One Against Loneliness
The 2026 Week Against Loneliness is organized by the Ministry of Health, Welfare, and Sport as part of the “One Against Loneliness” action program. Eighty percent of the municipalities in the Netherlands and more than 200 national nonprofit organizations, companies, and institutions are participating in the program. Anyone can experience loneliness—whether in themselves or in someone else. And everyone can do something about it.
