The Midden-Holland Regional Archives could be described as the region’s memory.

Because this is where the archives for this region are kept. Are you searching for your ancestors? Do you want to research the history of your house, street, or village? You’re welcome at the regional archive, whether you’re a historian or just passing by. This is the place to go to find historical information—and to meet others with whom you can share historical knowledge and stories.

The Midden-Holland Regional Archives manages a large number of archives and special collections. These include municipal government records, for example, which are open to the public after a 20-year period. But they also include private archives from schools, churches, and associations, as well as an extensive collection of photographs, maps, wartime documentation, and regional newspapers. A special place is held by the Gouda City Library, a magnificent collection of old books, established in 1594.

You can start preparing for your research on our website. Photos and some other resources have been digitized and are available to view online. For other archival records or books, you can read their descriptions and then request them. We’ll arrange for them to be transported from our new Gouwe Depot and have the materials ready for you at the Chocoladefabriek at the agreed-upon time.
