Nature playground Het Eiland
Het Eiland is an adventurous nature playground in Gouda East. It is located behind the apartment buildings on Bleysstraat and Han Hollanderweg; simply walk around the apartment buildings. (See location Het Eiland). It opens every morning at 8 a.m. During the summer months, it is open until 9 p.m., and outside of the summer months, it is open until the streetlights come on.
What can you do here?
You can play with sand and water. Build huts. Climb, scramble, and cross the water, sometimes falling in. The water is intended for play, not swimming. So it's better not to go underwater. For parents and older people, there are benches and tables, in the shade and in the sun.
Wheelchair?
The site is partially accessible for adults and children with disabilities. Children in wheelchairs can play at the sand factory and the two waterways. There is space for people in wheelchairs at the tables.
Safety?
We, and the municipality, check the site frequently and regularly. If you see anything that you think poses a danger, please send us an email. Children under the age of 7 can of course only play safely on Het Eiland under adult supervision. A visitor told us that hogweed (dangerous plants 2-3 meters high) grows on Het Eiland. That is not the case. There are plants with white flowers that look a bit like hogweed, but all our plants are 100% harmless.
For everyone and by everyone
Everything here is done by volunteers. Maintenance, cleaning, closing, and opening. Will you help keep the Island clean by taking your trash back with you or throwing it in the trash cans? Every second Saturday of the month, there is a work afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Roll up your sleeves and join us for some food and drinks. If you are only available on other days, you are also very welcome.
Would you like to help out? Working in the garden? Small jobs? Being scheduled to open and close the gates? Contributing ideas to the board? We would love to hear from you at info@speleningoudaoost.nl.
