Every year on Easter Monday, the whole of Gouda is invited to join in

On Easter Monday, April 6, the Samma Foundation is once again hosting a big Easter Breakfast in Gouda’s market square. Everyone is welcome to join in for free. Before breakfast officially begins, all guests will create a beautiful piece of art out of clay!

This year, the Samma Foundation in Gouda is organizing its 11th annual Easter Breakfast around City Hall on the market square. With the help of more than 300 volunteers, the table will be set for 3,000 guests. It doesn’t matter who or what you are. Everyone is welcome! The goal is to bring people together in conversation. In this way, the Easter Breakfast makes a valuable contribution to greater connection and community spirit in the city. And that makes Gouda even more fun.

The official opening of the Easter Breakfast is at 10:00 a.m. Musical entertainment will be provided by the well-known singer Pearl Jozefzoon.

In these uncertain times, this year’s theme is “Safety.” This ties in perfectly with the temporary exhibition at Museum Gouda on Faith. What gives you a sense of security? What do you need to feel safe?

The driving force behind the Easter Breakfast, Irene Klein Haneveld, is once again full of enthusiasm. “With the connection to Museum Gouda and art, all visitors to the Easter Breakfast will receive a small lump of clay. They can use it to create something that represents what gives them a sense of security. All three thousand of these little works of art will be fired at Club Klei. From all those little pieces of security, we’ll ultimately create one big work of art—one big pile of security. How cool is that!”

Two years ago, Irene Klein Haneveld was named an honorary citizen of the city during the Easter Breakfast. This year will likely be the last time Irene attends the Easter Breakfast. In January, she announced that she has a terminal illness.
