Open House Day in Gouda

Every second weekend in September, the VriendenLoterij Open Monument Day takes place throughout the Netherlands. Well-known and lesser-known monuments open their doors to the public free of charge. In Gouda, about 60 monuments are open to the public each year. At many of them, guided tours are offered, stories are told, or activities take place—ranging from music to performances.

Hours:
Saturday, September 12: 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
Sunday, September 13: 12 p.m.–5 p.m.

“Resilient Heritage” is the national theme for Open Monument Day 2026. Monuments tell stories of change, adaptation, and perseverance. Over the centuries, buildings have taken on new functions, been renovated, and adapted to the needs of their time.
In Gouda, too, our heritage shows how the past and the future are inextricably linked. After all, heritage is more than just a reminder of the past. It is a living source of knowledge, inspiration, and craftsmanship. By repurposing historic buildings and keeping traditional crafts alive, we build upon the past and pass our heritage on to future generations.
