Introductory walk through gates and alleys
A city walk past charming gateways, through narrow alleys, and past historic courtyards. Every Wednesday during Gouds Montmartre, you can join a city walk that starts at 2:00 p.m. at the Waag. During this walk, a guide from the Gouda Guides Guild will take you to various lesser-known—but no less beautiful—spots in Gouda. Gouda’s city center still has a number of alleys and lanes, each one narrower than the last, often hiding surprising and sometimes even thrilling stories.
The city also boasts several charming courtyards and gateways. These sheltered spots offer an oasis of calm in the bustling city, but you’ll have to ask the guide to find out if that was always the case. During this walk, you’ll learn how the poor, the elderly, and the sick used to live, reside, and work.
This introductory walking tour is offered exclusively in Dutch.
