New festival for art, design, and ecological regeneration

From May 30 through June 21, the first edition of the Green Heart Biennale will take place—a new festival for art, design, and ecological regeneration focused on the Green Heart. The Green Heart Biennale is at once international, local, and regional. The festival explores how art, design, and citizen initiatives can contribute to the restoration and improvement of the local environment for all forms of life.

This inaugural edition features local public programs held over four consecutive weekends at various locations throughout the Green Heart: Nieuwkoop and the Nieuwkoopse Plassen, Boskoop, Gouda, and Gorinchem. Four “pilot projects” featuring international artists have been developed specifically for these locations, actively involving local cultural organizations, initiatives, and the local community.

The program includes presentations by artists, designers, researchers, and ecological initiatives, as well as hands-on workshops, educational programs, and explorations of the local area. Throughout the festival period (May 30 through June 21), the main exhibition will be on view in Gouda at GOUDasfalt, the extensive bottom-up creative hub on the Hollandse IJssel, directly across from the city’s historic center. The exhibition brings together local projects and themes with international eco-regenerative art and design projects.

Organization
The Groene Hart Biennale is organized by Terrestris, the new platform for art and eco-regenerative culture, in collaboration with an extensive network of regional and national and international partners. The goal is to hold the festival every two years in the Groene Hart.
