Spotlight on #MeToo: Talks & Documentary Night at Museum Gouda on March 6
On Thursday, March 6, 2025, Museum Gouda will once again host a Talks & Docu Evening. This time, the event will tie in with the highly talked-about exhibition “Susanna: From the Middle Ages to #MeToo.” How do artists and documentary filmmakers make a difference in the conversation about sexual misconduct? Led by Krista Arriëns (known from De sekszusjes), documentary filmmakers Judith de Leeuw and Kees-Jan Mulder, artist Susanna Inglada, and musician Hanne Brunekreeft (Zuster Zonnebloem) will engage in a discussion and show excerpts from their work. The exhibition “Susanna – From the Middle Ages to MeToo” at Museum Gouda runs through March 23, 2025.
Judith de Leeuw
Filmmaker Judith de Leeuw discusses her documentary *De Hoofdpersoon* (2020): a film that explores the #MeToo debate in all its complexity. She asked prominent theater director Ruut Weissman to direct a solo performance about the power dynamic between a teacher and a student. Both Weissman and actress Harriët Stroet have personal experiences with this theme. The documentary shows how the relationships between the director, the filmmaker, and the actress become strained during rehearsals.
Kees-Jan Mulder
Kees-Jan Mulder’s short film NUDES (2022) encourages young people to think about the choices they make when they encounter (unwanted) inappropriate behavior. What do you do as a teenager when you receive an unsolicited nude video of a classmate? Central to the film are conversations between the mentor and individual students. A poignant glimpse into
Susanna Inglada and Zuster Zonnebloem
Artist Susanna Inglada created two video works specifically for the exhibition ‘Susanna - From the Middle Ages to MeToo’. Power dynamics play a central role in her work, ranging from the political history of her homeland, Spain, to the oppression of women in art history.
Hanne Brunekreeft is the lead singer of the band Zuster Zonnebloem. They wrote a song about Susanna’s fate especially for the exhibition.
