On Saturday, September 20, 2025, Gouda will host the very first NIGHT OF WONDER. In the evening, the city center will transform into a vibrant cultural stage filled with art, music, theater, and surprises. Cultuurhuis Garenspinnerij kicks off the day earlier with a special AFTERNOON PROGRAM dedicated to World Alzheimer’s Day. In the evening, the Garenspinnerij then continues with the public program of the Night of Wonder, where everyone is welcome to immerse themselves in art and culture.
“With the afternoon program, we want to let people with dementia and their families experience how music opens doors—it provides energy, joy, and connection,” says the organization. “But neighbors and culture lovers are also warmly welcome. It will be a musical afternoon full of encounters and connection.”
Music as a unifying factor
The afternoon program in conjunction with World Alzheimer’s Day runs from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and is free to attend. With music as the central theme, there will be ongoing, accessible activities designed to provide fun and relaxation:
Wonder Choir | Singing familiar songs together , accompanied by pianist and conductor Robert Vuijk. Lyrics and sheet music will be provided so everyone can join in, regardless of singing experience.
Lying-Down Concert | Relax while lying down or sitting and listen to the soothing live sounds of Ambient Exploration.
Bucket Drums | Creating rhythm together provides energy and a sense of connection.
Visitors can also enjoy free coffee, tea, and treats. The afternoon concludes festively with a cozy get-together.
The afternoon program is organized by De Kunstmachine in collaboration with Alzheimer Nederland – Midden-Holland branch, the Municipality of Gouda, and the Cultuurmakelaar.
Evening program: from pancakes to the Piano Bar
The evening program of the Night of Wonder begins at 6:00 PM at the Garenspinnerij. This program is aimed at all residents and visitors to Gouda who want to be amazed by art and culture. The program includes:
Pancake dinner | Featuring special theater acts by Jeugdtheaterhuis.
Family Disco | Jump , dance, and party along to the best beats for the whole family.
Lying-down concerts | Lie back and relax while listening to the soothing live sounds of Ambient Exploration.
Piano Bar at Cultuurcafé KLOS | Our house pianist Frank van Geest will play all your requests—feel free to sing along.
