The museum shop sells farmhouse cheese from the producer, Van Vliet syrup waffles, and other Gouda products.
The Gouda Waag was designed in 1668 by the famous architect Pieter Post, who also designed the Waag in Leiden, Huis ten Bosch in The Hague, and Maastricht City Hall. In the Gouda Waag, all goods weighing more than 10 pounds were weighed and then taxed. The large relief on the facade is a reminder of this function, and the original scales can be admired inside. The old Dutch text 'Niet te hooch, niet te laech, van passe' (Not too high, not too low, just right) on the adjacent building of De Zalm Food & Sports Bar refers to the regulation that no building on the Market Square could be higher than the cornice of the Gouda Waag.
In addition to the museum shop and the museum, the Gouda Tourist Information Office is also located in the Gouda Waag.
