De Vlaam is a pastry shop with a long history.

De Vlaam in Gouda

With Anker and his wife Anja at the helm, Banketbakkerij de Vlaam set a new course. In 1990, the shop in Boskoop moved from Zijde to Koninginneweg—a location with more foot traffic. Ten years later, for the same reason, the shop in Waddinxveen would also relocate from Oranjelaan to the Groensvoorde shopping center. Meanwhile, in 1995, Jan and Anja had taken over the premises of Johan Verweij’s bakery on the Markt in Gouda. Not only were all pastry products produced in Gouda’s city center from that point on, but they were also sold on the Markt. For the entrepreneurial duo, it was a dream come true.

When Jan and Anja acquired the bakery in Gouda, they also purchased the well-preserved and authentic recipe for the Kamphuisen stroopwafel—the oldest and, according to connoisseurs, the most delicious stroopwafel in Gouda. The waffle was likely invented in the early 19th century by the Gouda baker Pieter Willem Kamphuisen. Thanks to their refined and rich flavor, these syrup waffles have been a huge success for 200 years. The Kamphuisen syrup waffle fits seamlessly into the delicious assortment of Banketbakkerij de Vlaam.
