Wandering through the Land of Stein
At the beginning of the 14th century, the name Land van Steyn appeared, named after the then lord Arnoud van Steyn (±1266 - ±1328). It was a high lordship with its own rights. The Emmaüs monastery, where Desiderius Erasmus was a monk, was located in this land. Now there is a farm called "Het klooster" (The Monastery). Erasmus did not think much of this place. He found it wet, cold, and drafty.
