A Sneak Peek at the World Food & Film Festival
The World Food & Film Festival will offer a preview during the IJsselmarkt, featuring live music, workshops, discussions, films, and culinary delights.
Fancy an afternoon full of flavor and surprises? The World Food & Film Festival is offering a delightful preview on Pentecost Monday, May 25, at Buurtpunt Zoutman during the IJsselmarkt in Gouda. Stroll past the stalls, join in on workshops, and let yourself be swept away by music and stories from around the world between 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM. The event is free, but you’ll pay a small fee on-site for food and drinks.
Experience the rich, spicy flavors of Syrian cuisine, lovingly prepared by Mohammed and his son Hamza, while pianist Panos Gklistis provides an enchanting soundtrack and visual artist Silvia Bolognesi creates live artwork inspired by the music. A unique encounter between music and visual art, with subtle nods to their Greek and Italian roots. Be moved by Gabo Del Rey, who performs a special acoustic tribute to the work of Lana Del Rey, sung in Bosnian, the language of his beloved.
Want to try it yourself? Polish artist Karolina Cichoń invites you to an inspiring workshop where you’ll use markers to bring your own culture, story, and identity to life. Meanwhile, the duo Shantiers will perform a cheerful mix of shanties and Irish classics, including a tribute to Ameland. Children (and secretly adults too) can get beautiful henna tattoos, an ancient tradition with roots in Egypt, India, and the Middle East. Or go for a fresh look with a braided hairstyle or hair extensions at Kim Bons of Hairdo For You.
The World Food & Film Festival is an initiative of the Goudse Schouwburg. Don’t expect a run-of-the-mill event, but rather lively moments when local residents come together, discover new flavors, and spontaneously linger for a good conversation. It’s as if you’ve unexpectedly joined a long table filled with dishes, music, and stories from all over the world.
