Starting Thursday, April 2, De Firma will host the month-long exhibition “Shadow Practices,” featuring drawings and paintings by artist Rens Krikhaar.

Terra Incognita
Rens Krikhaar’s world consists of an archipelago with many islands. In a twilight realm without rules, giants, processions, grinning masks, and
hallucinatory scenes appear. Central to his work is the confrontation with our own insignificance. In the world he evokes, he seeks to expose our tragedy: the primal force
of nature that ultimately always prevails. Surrendered to a dreamlike and sometimes frightening world full of natural violence and unreal elements, Krikhaar paints, draws, and sketches
in dramatic light-dark contrasts, depicting an ever-expanding “Terra Incognita” to which humanity seems to be at the mercy of.

Rens Krikhaar (1982) graduated from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague in 2009. His work has been exhibited at various venues, including Kunsthal Rotterdam, Heden in The Hague, and the Royal Palace in Amsterdam. In 2024, the Rembrandt House Museum served as his studio for two months during Rembrandt Open Studio. His work is included in numerous collections, including the Teylers Museum in Haarlem and the Centraal Museum in Utrecht.
