Guided tour of the city model at the Gouda Museum
Admire the detailed model of the city as it appeared in 1562 and discover how Gouda has developed over the centuries. The Museum Gouda guide takes you on a journey through the city’s turbulent history.
With the interactive city model, you’ll take a leap into the past and travel back to 1562. Meet the wealthy brewer Dirck van Reynegom. See how Anna Mantgens is harassed and her assailant is punished. Discover why the colossal St. John’s Church lies in ruins. Or learn how the city was defended.
The model of Gouda is impressive on its own, but with the guide’s commentary and the interactive tool, the city’s stories truly come to life. Wander through the city, discover, look, listen, zoom in, and experience Gouda in the sixteenth century. A life-size timeline uses beautiful illustrations to tell you everything about Gouda’s history, from its very beginnings in the year 1000 to the present day. After your visit, you’ll see the city with new eyes.
