Step back in time during the Historic Canal Day on Saturday, September 5, 2026! Discover the rich history of Gouda’s canals with a varied program for all ages.

Take a free ride on the De Jan Kordaat towboat operated by Reederij De IJssel, watch the demonstrations by Paard aan het Werk, take a unique water walk along the Hoge and Lage Gouwe with the Gouda Guides Guild, or experience 17th-century Gouda through the digital reconstructions by the Verborgen Stad Foundation. For children, there are fun activities such as painting, shuffleboard, and pin the tail on the donkey.

The program begins at 12:00 p.m. with an official opening ceremony and a historical lecture in St. Joost Chapel. Starting at 1:00 p.m., free boat tours and water walks depart every hour. Tickets are available at the information booth on the quay (while supplies last).

A fun and educational day for anyone who wants to learn more about Gouda’s historic water transport!
